Obituary
Melvin Eugene Welch, 87, formerly of Edgemont, SD, passed away April 12, 2017, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD.
Melvin was born July 18, 1929, in Clearfield, SD. His Family farmed in the Winner, SD, area before moving to Edgemont. Melvin entered the United States Army in 1951, and spent some of his time in the service in Germany. After his military service, he returned to Edgemont, where he worked for the Power & Light Co. He and his wife Betty owned and operated appliance stores in Edgemont, New Castle and later in Hot Springs. After retiring, they did a lot of traveling and RVing. Melvin has been a resident at the State Veterans Home for about 6 years.
Melvin will be missed by his wife, Betty (Caylor) Welch of Hot Springs, and brother, Glenn D. Welch of California.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the United Church, in Edgemont, with Pastor Kori Lehrkamp officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery.
