Michael Travis Murray, 27, of Longmont, CO, passed away January 15, 2023.

Michael was born November 26, 1995, in Rapid City, SD, to Peter and Dawn (Kainz) Murray.    He grew up in Custer loving animals, sports and the outdoors.  He attended Custer High School where he played football and wrestled.  He enjoyed cooking and writing.  After graduating Michael left to fulfill his dream of being a Marine. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines with 2/6 Golf Co. until his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal in 2018.

Michael is survived by his parents, Peter and Dawn Murray of Custer; daughter, Adalyn Rae; brother, Alex (Stephanie) Murray and nieces Madison and Samantha of Brookings, SD; sister, Taarna Murray of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; sister, Victoria /Torrie Murray of Norfolk VA; Grandmother, Margie Kainz of Custer, SD; Great Grandmother, Jean Kayl of Gregory, SD; Uncle, Andrew (Leah) Cousins, Blake and  Addison Kainz  of Custer, SD; Aunt Renee and cousin Amber Nicks of  Bloomfield, NE ; Aunt Lareina (Andrew) and cousins Taylor, Ryan and Jacob Curtis-Wellings of Austin, TX; and many extended family members and friends.

Michael is preceded in death by his Great Grandfather Charles Kayl of Gregory,SD; Grandfathers, Greg Murray of Seal Rock, OR; Dean Kainz of Custer, SD;  Uncle Travis Kainz of Custer SD; and Cousin Zachary Nicks of Vermillion, SD.

Christian Funeral will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2023, at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Custer, SD.

Christian Committal will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2023, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with military honors presented.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.
