Obituary

Mildred Racheal (Dean) Morgan, age 93, passed away January 2, 2008 at her residence in Custer, SD.

Mildred was born February 14, 1914 in Milan, Illinois to Walter Russell Dean and Cora Rettic.

Mildred married Robert E. Morgan September 1934 (Labor Day). They lived in Pleasant Valley at the Woods place until they moved to Pringle in the fall of 1941. In the summer of 1944 Robert and Mildred purchased a sawmill which still operates today. Robert passed away in the spring of 1952, leaving Mildred with two small boys. Mildred got a pair of logging boots and went to work at the mill. In 1955 a fire started up at the burner during the noon hour and burned the mill. So once again she had a big decision to make. She said, we will rebuild and continue. Today with the help of son and grandsons, the mill continues to operate.

Mildred was always active with her family and community affairs. Most remember her homemade raised donuts she baked for community functions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Morgan; her parents; sister Desyl Boggs, brothers, George, Donald, Dick and Johnny Dean.

Mildred is survived by two sons, Robert James (Anna) Morgan of Custer, SD; David Edward (Bev) Morgan of Pringle, SD; one brother, Milton (Thelma) Dean of Oral, SD; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two step great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Pringle Cemetery with Pastor Bill Savery officiating.
