Obituary

Monty Lou Fleming, age 56, of Smithwick, SD, passed away September 12, 2011, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Monty was born July 24, 1955, to Kyle and Carole (Allen) Fleming. He grew up outside of Oral, SD and would help work his grandfather's ranch. At a very young age he fell in love with the land and was one with nature.

He attended the Oral school until 6th grade when he then started attending school in Hot Springs. He played sports in middle school, loved wood work, and like his brother he loved to draw.

After high school Monty worked road construction in Wyoming before starting his own carpentry business. Most people that knew him would always talk about his work; he never said he was done with a job until it was perfect. He was known as an honest hard working man with a great sense of humor and his own uniqueness. He was well respected by others and in return gave everyone his respect as well. He wouldn't hold a grudge against a person as it wasn't worth his time.

According to those who knew him best he was capable of making as much money as he wanted but he didn't need to be a millionaire to be happy, he was happy helping others and with what he had or could get from the land. He was never ashamed of his life, what he had or didn't have, and lived life to the fullest.

He lived in a small country community with his wife and three kids, later taking in his niece and nephew to raise them. He was on the Smithwick Volunteer Fire Department. His favorite past times were to go hunting and fishing. He supported his kids by going to games, school programs and concerts, and helping them with anything they needed.

He is survived by his wife Berline Fleming, his daughters Mandy Fleming and Melissa Fleming, his son Malachiah Fleming, two grandsons D'driq and Zikia, his niece and nephew that were living with him Amber Fleming and Jared Fleming, as well as other nieces and nephews, his mother Carole O'Bryan, step father Pat O'Bryan and a sister Cheryl Jennings.

He was preceded in death by his father Kyle Fleming Sr. and his brother Kyle Fleming Jr.

Funeral services were held Sept 16, 2011. Anyone wishing to send cards can mail them to PO Box 84, Smithwick SD 57782.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs. Written condolences may be made at www.mccolleyschapels.com.
