Obituary

Morris Dee 'Ferg' Ferguson, age 94, of Custer, SD, passed away January 2, 2013, at Custer Regional Senior Care in Custer.

Ferg was born July 17, 1918, in Alvord, TX to John and Jewel (Howard) Ferguson.

He served in the US Army from 1943 until 1946 and fought with the combat infantry in Europe during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star for valor.

Ferg began his career with the US Forest Service in 1947, and worked many years on the Black Hills National Forest, retiring in 1976.

He married Virginia Harris in 1951, and together they raised three children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and storytelling. No one laughed at his jokes more than he.

Ferg is survived by his wife, Virginia of Custer; son, Gary (Anne Marie) of Oakland, CA; daughters, Sharon (Dean) Kurtz and Wanda (Rick) Wheeler both of Custer; sister, Betty Huebner of Palestine, TX; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 200 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2013, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
