Obituary
Myron Dale Eggers, age 81, of Custer, SD, passed away May 24, 2013, at the Avera St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Pierre, SD.
Myron was born to Bill and Freda (Metzger) Eggers in Douglas County, SD, of December 20, 1931. He graduated from Corsica High School and spent four years in the US Air Force serving on a B-29 in the Korean War. Myron went on to graduate with a degree in accounting from the University of South Dakota. He worked for the Forest Service in Colorado, IRS in Yankton, SD, and an accounting business in Corsica. The family moved to a ranch north of Custer in 1968 where he did ranching, real estate and insurance. Myron was married to Joan (Burke) Eggers of Orient, SD, for fifty-seven years and they raised three sons, Mike, Pat and Dan as well as two daughters, Terrie and Barb.
Myron was active in the VFW and served as post commander and enjoyed carrying the flag in the Gold Discovery Days parade. He was also active in Rotary, Naja Shriners, Custer County Weed Board and Custer Lutheran Fellowship. He was a member of the SD Aviation Hall of Fame. Myron's joys were living in the Black Hills and ranching. He will be remembered for his great laugh and firm handshake.
Myron is survived by his wife, Joan of Custer; sons, Mike (Sandy) Eggers of Brooklyn Park, MN; Pat (Nancy) Eggers of Wyoming, MN; Dan (Janell) Eggers of Harrisburg, SD; daughters, Terrie (Sean Foy) Eggers of Onona, MN; Barb (Todd) Pries of Eden Prairie, MN; eight grandchildren, Ryan; Leah; Brandon; Cody; Matt; Blake; Jonah; Rachel; brother, Bob Eggers of Corsica, SD; sisters, Esther (Bob) Henry of Newcastle, WY; Kay (Dick) Parker of Pierre, SD; brother-in-law, Joe Rysavy. Myron often said we have five great children and considered this a blessing.
Myron is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roland; two sisters, Marge Eggers; Carol Rysavy and sister-in-law, Norene Eggers.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Custer Lutheran Fellowship near Custer, SD; with Pastor Tom Opoien officiating. Committal services will be held at a later date at the Corsica Cemetery near Corsica.
The family encourages memorials in Myron's name be given to either the Custer VFW youth programs or the Custer Lutheran Fellowship Discretionary Fund.
