Nancy Jane Cadwell born November 25, 1937, to Seymour and Anna Snyder in Newcastle Wyoming. Nancy spent her childhood with her three brothers and one sister in Newcastle. One of her often-shared memories was spending the summers with her grandparents on a ranch outside of Newcastle. Her father's job took the family to Mandan, ND when Nancy was a Senior in High School. She graduated from Mandan High School in 1955. After graduation Nancy spent time in Denver at a school for Floral Design. North Dakota is where she met Curtis Cadwell, they were married in 1959. While living in Mandan their first son was born in Bismarck, ND. Curtis and Nancy then moved to Jamestown, ND. Jamestown was where three more children were born. In 1970 the family moved to Edgemont SD.
Nancy had a special gift for art. From the time she was young she was painting and drawing. She was an accomplished artist in many mediums, gifting many paintings to family and friends. She was a member of the Northen Plains Watercolor Society in Rapid City, entering paintings in many shows. She also taught tole painting classes for many years. Nancy loved to travel; she took a trip of a lifetime when she was able to travel to Greece with several fellow artists. She also painted amazing sets for Edgemont Theatre, scenes for rooms at Edgemont Trails Trains and Pioneers Museum, drawings for the Edgemont Centennial book and cookbook and many more projects.
Nancy was a member of the United Church in Edgemont, she taught Sunday School, was a youth leader served on several committees and was the creative decorator for any special event.
Nancy loved family. She was a busy mom with her children and that didn't change when she had grandchildren. She went to many sporting events, plays, concerts and graduations. Great grandchildren were a special joy for Nancy.
Life took a hard turn when Nancy was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2012. In the fall of 2022 Nancy moved to an assistant living in Springfield, SD then to a nursing home and Hospice House in Yankton, SD. She passed away at the Hospice with family at her side Dec. 1.
Survivors include Curtis Bryan Cadwell (Stacey), Casper WY, Deanne Brown (Mark), Edgemont, SD Claudette Heusinkveld (Chester), Springfield, SD, Corbet Cadwell (Terri), Winters, CA, her brother Stephen Snyder (Jane). Her grandchildren Jacob Cadwell (Annie) and children Lucy, Ruby and Goldie, Shawna Neumann (Ben) and children Waylon, Winnie, Willa and Henry, Mark Christopher Brown (Lisa) and child Astoria, Devon Cadwell (Mattie), Mallory Cadwell, Eric Brown and daughter Amelia, Clayton Cadwell, Ryan Heusinkveld, Sarah Warren (James), Molly Cadwell, Anna Hejna (Jeremy) and son Brooks, and Erin Heusinkveld. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Curtis Cadwell, her brothers Seymour Rodrick Snyder and Richard Snyder, and sister Carol Simmons.
A service to celebrate Nancy's life will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the United Church, Edgemont SD. Committal services will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the United Church of Edgemont and the Edgemont Ambulance Service.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
