Obituary
Nancy Joy Elliott, 69, of Hot Springs passed away January 5, 2017, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Nancy was born February 9, 1947, to William and Leona (Dockter) Rempfer in Jamestown, ND. Nancy received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Biology at Concordia in Saint Paul, MN. She further got her Special Education Certification at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. Nancy met William T. Elliott while at Northern State College in 1975, and they were married on June 1, 1976, and were married for 40 plus years.
Nancy was a Special Education teacher for 33 years and retired in 2005. She continued working with children at Bethesda Lutheran School with the Foster Grandparents Program where she was lovingly known by the children as Grandma Nancy. Nancy was a kind, loving, and compassionate person. She was a woman of faith and she possessed empathy towards special needs children.
Nancy enjoyed bible study, watching TV, especially Wheel of Fortune, and playing computer games. She enjoyed being in nature and especially enjoyed bird watching and nature drives with Bill. She especially liked driving out to the Prairie Dog town, and then she also enjoyed working with the children. Bill and Nancy enjoyed sitting at the end of the day going over the day's events.
Nancy was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She volunteered with the Foster Grandparents Program at the Bethesda Lutheran School. She received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 for her lifelong commitment to strengthening her community through volunteer service.
Nancy is survived by her husband, William, of Hot Springs.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. thru 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2017, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Gary Jacobsen officiating.
Interment will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
