Nancy Lee (Merrill) Mileusnich age 83 of Hot Springs, SD passed away on July 8, 2021 at the Michael J Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home, Hot Springs, SD. Nancy was born October 2, 1937 in Onida, SD to William Rush Merrill and Alvera Selma (Breitkreutz) Merrill.
Nancy graduated from Onida High School in 1955. On February 12, 1956 she married George L Mileusnich in Onida, SD. To this marriage they welcomed Kevin George, Carlo Wayne, Karri Anita, Eric Lee, and Kayla Annette. The family moved to Hot Springs in December 1966.
Prior to raising her family, Nancy worked at the Sully County Extension Office. Nancy was a wonderful, caring in-home daycare provider, and was a seamstress. After her children were in school, she worked as a Hot Springs Elementary School teacher's aide, secretary at National Bank of South Dakota, and secretary at Wilson's Law Office. Prior to retiring in 2001, Nancy was secretary to the Superintendent at the State Veterans Home. After retirement she worked seasonally at the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce Depot Visitor's Center.
Nancy enjoyed singing with the Sully County Chorus. She was a 4-H Leader for over 25 years, served on the Board of Directors for the Western Junior Home Economics Show, and was a member of the local Extension Club. Nancy was a member of the LWML, member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir. She served many years on the Hot Springs City Council, was active with the Greater Fall River Health Services, and was a Lifetime member of VFW Auxiliary.
Nancy was a lady of many talents and shared them with all. She was passionate about sewing, caring for children, and helping others. She spent many hours traveling to support her children and grand children's activities. She also enjoyed traveling to see different areas of the United States. Nancy was a true friend to many.
Nancy is survived by her children Carlo Mileusnich Phoenix, AZ, Karri (Ken) Fischer Hot Springs, SD, Eric Mileusnich Hot Springs, SD, Kayla Mileusnich (Mark Weintraub) Maple Shade, NJ. Grandchildren Andrew (Martha) Reynolds, Dylan Mileusnich, Lexi (John) Knight, Gabe Mileusnich and special friend Madison Burnett, Clare (Travis) Cone, Erin Mileusnich, Dustin (Becky) Fischer and Kolton, Kailyn Fischer and special friend Dante Heredia, and Michael Mileusnich. She is also survived by brothers David (Ruth) Merrill, Tom (Dorothea) Merrill and John (Kenlyn) Merrill, sister-in-law Hazel Vrooman, brothers-in-law Ken Westphal and Floyd Caldwell and numerous nieces and nephews. Very special friends Joe and Karen Muller and their daughters Kristi Harris and Cody, Janissa Muller (Bobby Steuck), Jenni (Paul) Mosier and Rylan.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents William and Alvera Merrill, husband George Mileusnich, son Kevin Mileusnich, sister Georgia Allen, brothers-in-law Bob Allen and Dan Vrooman, sisters-in-law Helen Westphal and Goldie Caldwell and nephews Loren Vrooman and Rory Jay Allen.
Visitation will be held on Sunday July 11, 2021, from 5pm to 7pm MDT at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD with family present.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday July 13, 2021, at 9am MDT at Bethesda Lutheran Church Hot Springs, SD. Burial will follow at the Onida Cemetery, Onida, SD at 4PM CDT.
A memorial has been established in Nancy's name.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
