Obituary

Nancy D. Smith, age 60, of Oelrichs, SD, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012, at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs, SD.

She was born on April 9, 1951, in Greenville, MS, to Clyde and Betty Yarbrough. Nancy graduated from Whitehaven High School, where she participated in numerous school activities, excelling as a band majorette.

On December 8, 2001, Nancy married Paul Smith in Alliance, NE. The couple moved to a ranch east of Sturgis, SD, in March 2002. After Paul's sensing a call to ministry they moved to Faith, SD, where they served for five years as pastor of Faith UMC/Marcus Presbyterian. In 2008 they were appointed to United Church of Faulkton where they served for three years. They were offered and accepted the appointment at Prairie View UMC in 2011.

Nancy devoted her life to being a great pastor's wife. She adored her family especially her grandkids. She was quilter who couldn't pass up a quilt shop giving her supplies for her masterpieces. Nancy and Paul enjoyed traveling when schedules would allow and one of her favorite trip was to Glacier National Park, MT, in 2009. Nancy had a welcoming smile that would put first time church guests at ease almost instantly. Almost every Sunday she could be found walking around the sanctuary saying hello, always wanting everyone to know they were welcome. At the end of worship, Nancy could be found standing next to her husband greeting people with her warm smile. They truly worked as a team.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Pastor Paul Smith, of rural Oelrichs,; sons, Jonathan Stroud (fiancée Jessica Trumbull) of Dallas, TX; Matthew Stroud of Belle Fourche, SD; daughters, Angela Ostrander of Faith, SD; Melissa Smith of Minnetonka, MN; Rebecca (Travis) Smith of Buffalo, SD.
