Norah Elizabeth Taylor was born July 27, 1913 in Marsland, NE to George and Nettie (LaBounty) Taylor. When she was very young, the family moved to a homestead north of Edgemont, SD. Norah went to school at a country school and graduated from Edgemont High School in 1931. From there she went on to Spearfish Teachers College and then taught country school southeast of Edgemont for a short time. During the war she worked handing out ration cards and then worked at the Black Hills ordinance Depot. When the depot closed she continued to work with the Civil Service until she retired. Norah then worked at Highley's Drug Store in Edgemont until she was needed to take care of her mother until her death.
Norah and her husband, Jesse (Bus) Spohr were married late in life. He precedes her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Fern Standen; nephew Charles (Jack) Standen; and niece Betty Jean Standen Hammel. She is survived by her nephew, Roy Standen, and her niece, Gracie Standen Marty; and by many nieces and nephews.
Norah died February 9, 2009 at the Castle Manor Nursing Home. She was known for her love of taking care of her home and her yard as well as many pets. She will be missed by many friends and family. She will be interred at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis with her beloved husband. A memorial service will be held at McColley's Chapel of the Hills on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
