Obituary

After a courageous battle with cancer, Patty L. (Lynn) Moen of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on April 2, 2010, at the age of 75 at the Rapid City Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.

Patty was born on April 6, 1934, in Deemston, PA, at the home of her parents, Edgar Lynn and Nellie Olena (Matthews) Lynn. In 1952, shortly after graduating from East Bethlehem High School, Patty married Sgt. Elmer J. Resetar and spent the next 27 years as the quintessential Air Force wife and mother. For those not familiar with military life, that means that Patty could single-handedly pack her entire house, her children, and any family pets and move at a moment's notice (which she did on average every other year for 27 years) – and do it with such grace and energy that to her children each move seem like an exciting adventure. Patty had three children: Elmer John, Jr.; Kathleen Marie and Sharon Elizabeth. In regard to her career, Patty was first and foremost a dedicated, stay-at-home Mom – always a chaperone on school field trips and the one to count on for homemade cookies and treats; in the years before her children were born and after they were grown, Patty worked as a telephone operator, and later as a school aid for special needs children and a volunteer at the Colorado Springs Hospice.

In 1991, Patty married Lyle Moen, to whom she was married for 19 years. Patty and Lyle lived in Colorado Springs where Patty was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3260, serving as past Auxiliary President and member of the Auxiliary Ritual Team. Patty was also a past member of the American Legion (Colorado Springs, CO and Hot Springs, SD). Upon retiring, Patty and Lyle moved to Lyle's home base of Hot Springs, SD.

Patty was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Allen Lynn, mother Nellie Olena (Matthews) Lynn, siblings Louise Romaine (Lynn) Housel, Norma Gail (Lynn) Ferrari, and Shirley Jean Lynn, and son, Elmer John Resetar, Jr.

Patty is survived by a family who love and will miss her, including, husband, Lyle Moen (Hot Springs); brother, Ralph Jackson Lynn and Dorothy Lynn (Beallsville, PA); daughters, Kathy (Resetar) Troxler and Michael Troxler (Freeville, NY); Sharon (Resetar) Lujan and Chris Lujan (Peyton, CO); stepson, Stewart Moen and Teresa Moen (Maryville TN); step-daughter, Brenda (Moen)Thomas and Terry Thomas (Interior, SD); as well as a wonderful mother-in-law, June Moen (Hot Springs) and very special sister-in-law, Pam Luchau, also of Hot Springs.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD, with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Patty requested that donations be made in her name to the Rapid City Hospice House, 224 Elk St., Rapid City, SD 57747, where she received such personal and loving attention.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs. Written condolences may be made at www.mccolleyschapels.com.
