Obituary

Paul Eugene Fugier was born May 23, 1937, in Hot Springs, SD. He joined his parents Glen and Vivian (Mohler) Fugier; two brothers and two sisters.

Buffalo Gap was always home for Paul. He attended the Buffalo Gap School for 12 years and enjoyed playing basketball, football and softball. After graduation in 1955 he worked for Wind Cave National Park and later for the railroad. He then attended Black Hills State College and graduated in the spring of 1961 with a B.S. degree in Business Education with a secondary degree in Elementary Education.

On June 10, 1961, Paul married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Carol Miller. They both taught in the Gertrude Burns Elementary School in Newcastle, Wyoming for the next ten years. Paul taught and loved his 5th grade students. One year he taught a commercial class in high school and also had a typing class for the 5th graders.

In January 1972, they moved back to Buffalo Gap, with their two sons, to join Albert Miller on the ranch where Paul spent the rest of his life.

Hunting, fishing and camping were some of his favorite pass times. He specialized in a mean game of Cribbage, Poker and a special game of "Ol' Corn", similar to poker but, candy corn was used instead of money. Everyone had to be careful not to eat the "money". Paul will be missed terribly; but will always be remembered for his sense of humor and boisterous laugh.

Paul passed away on February 24, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Shawn; son, Shane; grandson, Pate all of Buffalo Gap; a brother, Arthur and sister-in-law, Delores of Thermopolis, WY; a sister, Audrey Shaw of Oelrichs, SD; several nieces, nephews and extended family. Preceding him in death were brother, Lyle; sister, Gwendolyn and his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating.
