Philip Mohler Engelbrecht, 83, of Buffalo Gap, SD, passed away April 26, 2018, at the Custer Regional Senior Care Center in Custer, SD.

Philip was born April 5, 1935, in Hot Springs, SD, to Elva Louise (Mohler) and William 'Bill' Engelbrecht. His first two years of life were spent with his parents on Lame Johnny Creek north of Buffalo Gap where they were building a house, milking cows and farming. They traded the cows for a place east of Buffalo Gap on Harrison Flat and north of Mohler, SD, which was his mother's parents homestead and Post Office. Philip attended the first nine years of school at Harrison Flat School, then graduated from Buffalo Gap High School in 1953. He was active in the Cheyenne River 4-H, a charter member of Riverside Grange #223, and a member of Riverside Volunteer Fire Department.

Philip graduated from South Dakota State College in Brookings, SD. He would attend two quarters, come home to help calve and farm then go back two quarters until he earned his degree in agriculture. While at school he was active in Hobo Day, Ag clubs and worked as a plumber.  A stroke caused him to quit farming, ranching and his great love of dancing. Philip took great pride in his Hereford cattle. He liked to go to bull sales and farm auctions.

Philip is survived by his sister, Jerry Lynn (Don) Fish; niece, Bunny (Roy) Boldon and their children, Zane; Breezy; Baxter; niece, Sunnie (Dustin) Reeves and their children, Rance; Dylan; nephew, Ty (Kelly) Fish and their children, Thor; Tylee; Tynlee; and Tryon.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2018, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Committal Services will follow at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery near Buffalo Gap.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Philip's name may be given to the Buffalo Gap Volunteer Fire Department or the Custer Regional Senior Care Center.
