Philip Fredrick Kaiser, age 93, of Hot Springs, SD, passed July 27, 2015, at the Seven Sisters Living Center, in Hot Springs.
Philip was born May 20, 1922, on a farm a few miles from Parmelee, SD, to John and Rosella (Huber) Kaiser. He attended a small country school through seventh grade. The family moved to Hot Springs, where Philip grew up and spent the greater part of his life. He attended Hot Springs High School, then enlisted in the United States Air Force at Fort George Wright, Spokane, WA. Philip married Frances Kneebone on October 23, 1942, in Chadron, NE.
Philip attended Chefs and Bakers school and that became his main occupation during the time he spent in the Air Force. After his discharge he went to work at the VA Hospital in the Dietetic Department where he was the chief cook. After leaving the VA, Philip went into food service management in 1966. He served seven years as manager of Nashotah House Ministerial College where he was honored to serve a banquet for the Archbishop of Canterbury of England. He went to Chicago, IL where he managed a food service for G. D. Searle Company. He then went to work for the U.S. Army at Denver, CO, in high security at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. After a few years there, he took over management of the Officers Club at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, from there he retired after his full years of retirement service.
Philip had various job training courses with the Veterans Administration, the U.S. Army and the Air Force. Philip also attended the Lewis Hotel training school where he received a diploma. He attended the Dale Carnegie course for effected speaking and was a member of the Toastmasters Club of Hot Springs and served in elected office of Toastmasters.
Philip was an accomplished musician as he played electric steel guitar, mandolin and saxophone. In the late forties and fifties he had his own band "The Kaiser Serenaders" and played in different communities and surrounding states.
Philip was a life member of the American Legion and served as Post Commander for two terms, and served in other offices of the Post. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Springs Senior Citizens Center and the Minneluzahan Senior Center in Rapid City, SD. He served on the board of officers at the Hot Springs Senior Center and prepared a number of dinners for the public.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Frances of 73 years; two sons, Duane Kaiser of Centennial, CO; Keith (Marsha) Kaiser of Centennial, CO; two grandsons, Terry (Kellie) Kaiser Of Centennial, CO; Kevin(Diana) Kaiser of Commerce City, CO; two great grandchildren, Aline Marie Kaiser; Kristian Kaiser; three great step-grandchildren, Angelina Pena; Eloisa Pena; Anthony Pena; two sisters, Elsie Wassmann of Tacoma, WA; Ramona Pratt of Hudson Falls, NY; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
Graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2015, at Evergreen Cemetery, in Hot Springs, with Rev. Gary Jacobsen officiating.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; one sister, Viola Floyd; three brothers, John Kaiser, Robert Kaiser and Ernest Kaiser.
