Raymond Gilmore "Ray" Eide, age 69, of Custer, SD, passed away on June 2, 2015, at the Custer Regional Hospital in Custer, SD.
Ray was born in Hot Springs, SD, on October 26, 1945, to Richard and Hazel (Babcock) Eide. Ray lived in Custer his entire life, graduating from high school in 1963, and the Black Hills State Collage after returning home from Viet Nam. Ray served in the United States Army from 1966, until his honorable discharge in 1968. He married Mary Jean Muehl on June 8, 1973; they had two children, Cable Eide and Leanne (Scottie) Schramm. They have three grandchildren, Sawyer Zeb, Taylee Josaphine, and Brantley Ray Schramm.
He had a real passion for life. His unique sense of humor and amazing people skills kept him always on the go. He loved family and friends, rock climbing, agate hunting, carving in wood and stone, riding his motorcycle, giving guided tours, storytelling both orally and through his writing, and "his" Black Hills. He enjoyed being involved in foster care and loved all the children that came into his home, as his own. A frequent comment was, "It's another beautiful day in the Black Hills". He will be remembered by many as the guy at the window in the Post Office who would sell you a thirty-three cent stamp or give you a special price of ninety-nine cents for three.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Eide; son, Cable Eide; daughter, LeAnne (Scotti) Schramm; grandchildren, Sawyer, Taylee, Brantley; brother, Don (Martha); brothers-in law, Jack (Marlene)Muehl and Larry Muehl; his nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grandnephews and cousins will remember him as a very special, kind, funny, loving man.
He was preceded in death by Grandpa, GT Eide; Grandma, Lillie Dell Babcock; his parents; brothers-in law, Paul, Jim, and Jerry Muehl; and sister-in-law, Loretta Muehl.
