Obituary

Raymond Sylvester Holloway, of Smithwick, SD, passed away November 14, 2010 at Hospice of the Black Hills in Rapid City, SD.

He was born July 31, 1927 to William and Carrie (Ingenthon) Holloway in Presho, SD. He joined brothers Kenneth, Vernon and Donald and later Dallas completed the family. He met the love of his life, Bonnie, they were married on June 16, 1950 and spent 60 years together. They were blessed with three boys, Rick, Mike and Bob and one daughter, Sandy.

Raymond could fix anything with a monkey wrench or pliers and sometimes even baling wire. He was a teamster at the Days of 76 in Deadwood for over 20 years, earning him the "Teamster of the Year" award. He had various jobs over the years but his years of civil service at Ellsworth Air Force Base were where he was recognized for 20 years of service. Above all, most important to him was being husband, father, grandfather and a friend to depend on.


Raymond is survived by his sons, Mike and wife Laurie of New Underwood, SD; Bob of Smithwick; grandchildren, Brandi Thunderhawk of Centerville, TX; JJ Holloway of Humbolt, SD; Tina Holloway of Rapid City, SD; Amanda Holloway of New Underwood; two great grandchildren, Ashley and Randy Thunderhawk of Centerville, TX; one brother, Dallas and wife Mary of Smithwick; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Holloway and Dolores Holloway and numerous nieces and nephews and family friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie by only 28 days, his parents, his brothers, Kenneth, Donald and Vernon; one sister-in-law, Annabelle; one son, Rick and his daughter, Sandy.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2010, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
