We all lost a very special, humble, and beautiful man, Richard E. Corder, age 76, of Hot Springs, SD, he passed away on May 2, 2016, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hot Springs.
Richard was born on May 13, 1939, to John and Dorothy (Robinson) Corder in Picherd, OK. To know him was to love him. He made you laugh until your tummy hurt. He was very generous making large donations to several organizations every month. He adopted 3 Native American children, donated to Children's Hospital, the Humane Society, and Cats Meow Feline Rescue, Inc. monthly. During Christmas time he would anonymously donate $1000.00 to several Native Americans so they could have a nice holiday. He also gave to others to celebrate the holidays. He had quit a few places and people he had anonymously delivered money to them as they had children and he wanted to make sure they would be alright.
We had a "son" together "Jamesie Joesph Oliver II" a shih tzu, 4 weeks old. Richard would go to the store saying "Our Son" is not going without." It was an order to buy toys and doggie cloths for their son.
Richard proudly served in the United States Air Force Base in Scotts, IL, during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1959. He was presented with several metals and awards. He also served 2 tours in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War as a Sargent until his honorable discharge in 1969. One of the stories about him in the Vietnam was while an enemy was shooting at his lieutenant and he yelled, "What are you shooting at me for? I'm not shooting at you." It shocked the rest of the Army, looking dumb-founded they went away, I guess to regroup.
To truly know this man, you would think he was one of God's angels doing his works. He had a big heart. Someday our paths will meet again until then my friend R.I.P.
Richard is survived by his significant other, Shery Kay LaPointe of Hot Springs and brother, Donald E. Corder of Baxter Springs, KS.
At his request no services will be held. Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
