Richard Torbjorn Eide, age 95, of Custer, SD passed away July 28, 2008 at Wedgewood Regional Senior Care in Custer.
Richard was born to Guttorm and Ronnaug (Barlond) Eide on their family farm near Summit, SD on March 30, 1913. When he was seventeen the Eide family moved to the Custer area. He graduated from Custer high school in 1931 and spent most of his life in Custer since that time.
He married Hazel Irene Babcock on August 17, 1940. They became the parents of two boys, Donald and Raymond. Together the family enjoyed several trips to the western states but also enjoyed driving through the back roads in the Black Hills. He worked at several kinds of jobs including gold mines and feldspar mines and finally working for Custer Lumber Company for almost thirty three years. He was a long time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and served in all offices except that of secretary.
Richard is survived by his children, Donald (Martha) and Raymond (Mary); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer with Reverend Robert Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services.
