Richard Leonard Spencer, age 69, went to be with our Lord on January 19, 2014, at his home in Buffalo Gap, SD.
Richard was born May 28, 1944 in White Lake, SD, to Maurice L. and Frances C. (Milligan) Spencer. He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier as a boiler man from 1964 until his honorable discharge 1968. Richard worked for many years in the lumber industry, and worked in the boiler room at Willamette Industries for over 26 years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Dollie E. Spencer; two daughters, Jeanna (John) Barnard; Wendy (Howard) Compton; four granddaughters, Hannah & Amy Compton and Teresa & Joy Barnard; stepchildren, Tim (Leslie) Heck, Todd (Pam Myers) Heck: Tami (Robert) Gardner; Eugene (Shannon Horne) Heck; twenty step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary 'Aileen' Houman; Carolyn Dawson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Prairie View Methodist Church near Smithwick, SD with Pastor Paul Smith officiating.
