Rick Lee DeHaven of Custer, SD passed away November 8, 2022, at the age of 63.
Rick was born to James Leroy and Carol May (Coovert) DeHaven on August 12, 1959, in Orange, CA. He was the oldest of three brothers and attended Pacifica High School and Golden West College. Rick pursued the plumbing trade, having his plumbing contractor business for the last 15 years of his career. He met Adriana at Shoshin Ryu dojo where he taught Jujitsu. They married in 1991 and had two children, Michelle and Sean. In 2000, they moved to Custer, SD. The Black Hills was a perfect place to raise his family.
Rick was highly active as a youngster, he played baseball, football, did scuba diving, hunted and fished with his dad, siblings, and friends. Growing up his family spent long vacations in the outdoors, camping, water rafting, etc. Once married, he vacationed with his family in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. He loved Disney World. He started as Webelo in Cub Scouts, obtaining his Eagle Scout at age 14. He belonged to Shoshin Ryu Yudanshaki where he became 6th degree black belt. In 2012, he joined Masons and became a Shriner, where he joined the Clown and Blast and Cast units; however, he had the heart for little children attending the Shriners Circus. He would spend all weekend long greeting little kids as Taz the Clown. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Rick is survived by his wife, Adriana (Molina) of Custer, SD; his daughter, Michelle Kristine of Chadron, NE; his son, Sean Michael of Custer, SD; his grandchild, Yohannes James Gudeta; his mom, Carol May of Custer; his brothers, James of Custer; TJ (Cindy) of Carson City, NV; nephew, James and two nieces, Breanne and Brittany.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; father, James L DeHaven; and grandson, Omare James Gudeta.
Visitation will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, November 14, 2022, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 14, 2022, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD. Committal services will follow at Custer Cemetery in Custer, SD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rick DeHaven's name to the Shriner's Hospitals.
Arrangements have been placed under the local care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.
