Obituary
Robert Gerald 'Bob' Sokol, Sr., age 82, of Custer, SD, passed away on July 17, 2014, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Bob was born on February 29, 1932, in Valentine, NE, to Joeseph and Louella (Stewart) Sokol. He completed 8th grade at a one room school house, later received a GED. Bob entered the Army in February 1951, and joined Army Corp of Engineers where he worked on water sourcing, dams, and core drilling. He retired in February 1984. Bob married Phyllis Maxine Schmidt in 1948. They had four children. She died in 1991. Bob married Eileen Simmons in 1994. She died in 2000. He then married Lois Elaine Earlich in 2002.
Bob was stubborn, steadfast, loving, and protective. He loved his friends and family, eating out, working and tinkering in his garage. Bob was a member of the Elks Club.
Survivors include wife, Lois Sokol; sons, Dennis (Penny) Sokol of Finley, OH; Robert Sokol Jr., of Rapid City; daughter, Sherry Sokol of Rapid City; brothers, Larry (Jennifer) Sokol of Salt Lake City, UT; Jerry (Marilyn) Sokol of Salt Lake City, UT; granddaughters, Kristina Sokol (Michael Bell); Hannah (Dale) Hall; grandson, Isaac Sokol; and great grandson, Drake Hall.
Committal services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2014, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD, with Loyd Nielson officiating.
