Obituary
Robert Carl (Bob) Powell, age 67, of Hot Springs, SD passed away on October 29, 2016 at Pine Hills Retirement Community in Hot Springs.
Robert was born in Hot Springs, SD to Patricia Evans on February 10, 1949. He was adopted at the age of 5 months by Walton and Anna Powell of Custer, SD. He attended Custer schools and mechanics school in Denver, CO. He joined the Air Force in 1969.
After his discharge, he returned to Custer and bought a filling station. After leaving that, he worked for many years at Custer Lumber Company and served as a part-time deputy for Custer County Sheriff's Department. He went to work at the Hot Springs VA in 1986 and retired from there as the supervisory police officer in 2005.
Bob had two children, son, Robert W. Powell (Jolene) of Custer, SD; daughter, Wendy Huber (Rodney) of Pringle, SD; and helped raise their half-sister, Melissa, of Rapid City, SD; He married Deb in 1982 and with this union their stepdaughter, Vonna Laue (Bryan); he is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walton.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2016, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Hot Springs, SD, with Pastor Matt Lim officiating.
