Robin Leroy Davis, age 56 of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on December 20, 2016, at his home in Hot Springs.
Rob was born on August 28, 1960, in Rapid City, SD, to Bernard "Slim" and Glorine (Nash) Davis. He served in the United States Army from 1980-1982. He worked many years at the gold mines in Lead, SD. His main occupation was R & S Paint and Drywall which he owned since the early 80's. He married his high school sweetheart Sandra Goldade on August 4, 1979, and from this union they had 2 children, James "JR" Davis and Rebecca "Becky" (Davis) Krein.
As a farm kid growing up, Rob learned by watching his grandfather and uncles, all Chevrolet men, work on broken down farm machinery and cars until they ran again. At the young age of 7 years -old he was challenged by his grandfather to disassemble a car engine and put it back together so it would run. He passed that test and so began a lifelong love of mechanics and restoring old cars.
His first car was a maroon 1967 Impala, a five-speed, two-door hard top with chrome rims that he bought in high school in the early 1970's. He could be found cruising listening to Grand Funk Railroad in the eight-track player.
Throughout the years he bought restored and sold a variety of cars with his son and friends and took his kids and grandkids to car shows to pass along to them his love of cars. One of his favorite cars which he named Problem Child is a 1956 2 door hard top style line. Rob was invited to the Chevy Classics State Reps Show in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, in June of 2016. On June 29th Rob and his son arrived in Indiana and entered in the Cruiser Class and was awarded Cruiser Pick. The car was also published in the Chevy Classics magazine where it was on the front cover and also the centerfold. He loved classic cars, doing burnouts, Little Debbie snacks and cold Budweisers.
He is survived by son, James Davis of Hot Springs; daughter, Rebecca (Jesse) Krein of Selby, SD; sisters, Carol "Sue" Langiewicz of Eau Claire, WI; Deb Sutton of Hill City, SD; grandchildren, Jaida Krein, Evelyn and Easton Davis, and Anna and Marcus Stanley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Goldade, his parents and his brother Terry Davis.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Interment will be held at a later date.
