Roderick Hinek, 73, of Hot Springs,SD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota State Veterans Home. Born in Deadwood, SD, to Bud and Roselind Hinek; he lived most of his life in Hot Springs.
Rod was an incredibly quiet, fun-loving, gentle, and intelligent man who enjoyed building trains. He served in the Airforce from December 1964 to December 1968. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved cat, Q, and building and collecting trains.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Hinek; step-son, Mic Layton; brothers and sisters-in law, Lance and Barb Hinek of Bishop, CA; Neil and Karen Hinek of Sturgis, SD; Bill and Kittie Hinek of Los Molinus, CA; as well as his many loving nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 6, 2017, 1:30 p.m., at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota State Veterans Home Auditorium followed by the interment at 3:00 pm in the Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota State Veterans Home cemetery.
