Roger Merlyne Varick, 71, of Hot Springs, SD passed away June 20, 2008 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Roger was born on April 5, 1937 in Hot Springs, to Lawrence and Dora (Peck) Varick. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. He worked for the Hot Springs School District as a maintenance person for twenty-one years and retired on June 10, 2002.

He had many hobbies; including watching high school basketball, fishing, camping, traveling, bowling and wood working. Roger was also a member of the Masons and Martha Chapter 22.

Roger is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (M.J. Stubblefield) Varick of Hot Springs; two sons, Mike (Terri) Varick of Lake Dallas, TX; Kevin Varick of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Terri (Rick) Butler of Garland, TX; one step-daughter, Cindy (Justin) Arnold of Torrington, WY; one step-son, Dan (Debbie) Stubblefield of Weaver, AL; one brother, Merlyne Varick (Darlene Morgenstern-Lock) of Bemidji, MN; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

A memorial has been established to benefit the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department and the Hot Springs Humane Society.
