Obituary

Ronald John Olofson, age 80, of Smithwick, SD, passed away, January 12, 2017, at his home near Smithwick.

Smithwick on the Prairie—In the last hour of January 11, 2017, the beautiful and courageous energy that was Ron Olofson was released from a humble physical form riddled by congestive heart failure and crippling arthritis only to be set "FREE" to become an eternal part of all there is in the Universe. He passed peacefully at his country home with his wife of 60 years and a son at his side, with a multitude of angels, family, neighbors and friends nearby in spirit. He loved the high mountains and rolling hills, all Creatures Great and Small, as well as the great outdoors, music and his Church. Ron gave generously of his time when he could help others and was a role model and educator, teaching in the school systems of this country, with pride, for over 50 years.

Ron preferred the country life and instilled a great appreciation and respect for education, critical thinking, and all of God's creatures. Raised on a farm in rural South Dakota, he knew much about agriculture and spent years in retirement doing farm/ranch surveys for the Department of Agriculture and visiting people in the remote areas of South Dakota. His knowledge of tractors and music was freely shared with all the lives he touched and one of his greatest loves was playing music and singing with family and friends. His other passion was bicycles, as he was an avid bicyclist and enthusiast riding over thousands of miles during his lifetime for sport and pleasure.

Ron is survived by his wife; Sue Olofson of Smithwick,; brother, Robert Olofson of Odgen Utah; daughter, Kari McIntosh and her husband Dave of Kearney NE; sons, Craig Olofson of Smithwick, and Chris Olofson and his wife Nikki of Tehachapi CA, 7 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandson.

Come celebrate the "Life of Ron" at the Prairie View Methodist Church, with views of the Black Hills in the distance, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2017, with Mark Johnsen will be officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
