Obituary

Ruth Miller, 88, passed away March 6, 2018, in Colorado Springs, CO, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was a retired rancher from Hot Springs, SD, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Ruth Marie Finch was born February 24, 1930, in Red River County, Texas to the late Roy M. and Ruby G. (Burchinal) Finch. She grew up near Mosley, TX, and attended school and church there.

She found work as a telephone operator in Hot Springs where she met and married John "Dean" Miller on March 17, 1951, in Custer, SD. They were ranchers west of Hot Springs, where they ran the Miller Ranch and raised their family.

Ruth enjoyed hard work, farming, gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, and her life on the ranch. She was a devout Christian and very active with the Assembly of God Church in Hot Springs. She will be best remembered for her love of people and the wonderful care that she provided for her family.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Maggie) Miller of La Junta, CO; daughter, Debbie Miller-Swartzentruber (Nate) of Falcon, CO; grandson, Jonathan Mitchell, also of Falcon; sister, Lou Chumbley of Blossom, TX; sister, Nell Thompson of Blossom; brother, James (Phillis) Finch of Tyler, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dean Miller, in 2005, along with her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2018, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD. Private family committal service will be held at a later time.

Memorials in Ruth's name may be made to the Minnekahta Valley Fire Department, Hot Springs, SD.
