With a shattered heart, I regret to inform the passing of Sabe Reink Wyngaarden - Sam Richard Wyngaarden - Pake. After a valiant battle with cancer for the last seven months, Sam passed away peacefully at his home with his wife, Suzann Stoner-Wyngaarden, and sister, Arlene Greer, surrounding him with love on April 1, 2017.
Sam was born in Bellflower, CA, to parents, Burt and Shirley Wyngaarden, October 26, 1956. Just recently moved to Custer, SD, but, in his heart, this was his hometown and he loved living here surrounded by history, nature and many different animals. He worked for SoCal Gas Company in Orange County, California, for over thirty-three years and was a High-Pressure Pipeline Manager until he retired in 2012, and started traveling the United States in his retirement gift to himself, a beautiful motor coach.
Sam is preceded in death by his grandparents and his beloved mother, Shirley.
Sam's immediate family are his wife, Suzann Wyngaarden; father, Bert; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Keith Greer; nephew, Shaun Greer; and beloved children, Justine Wyngaarden; Kristopher Wolff and Stephenie Surber. He also has six grandsons, Andrew, Ashton, Avery, Alexander Wolff and Mason and Camden Surber; which all call him Pake (Grandfather in Dutch) and his labrador puppy, Friese Sukuladae.
Sam has many friends and was well respected in his community and career at the Gas Company. He also had many hobbies including fishing, camping, hiking, off-road Jeeping, woodworking, exploring the great United States and finding out of the way restaurants and breweries.
Sam was a very proud, intelligent man who respected the military/veterans, loved his family unconditionally and his Dutch heritage.
Sam has chosen not to have a memorial as he wanted a live memorial with all of his family and close friends that came to share memories and special moments in his home prior to his passing.
In lieu of flowers, you may choose to donate to any veteran's organization, Make-A-Wish Foundation or animal rescue, as these were very close to his heart.
We will always cherish and carry your memory in our hearts. Love you forever and always My True North.
