Sherrill (Sherry) Rae Calvird, 65, of Custer, SD died January 8, 2007 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Sherry was born January 31, 1941 in Thompson Falls, Montana to John and Averal Brauer. She graduated from high school in 1959 and then attended cosmetology school in Bozeman, Montana. She operated Sherrill's Beauty Shop in Thompson Falls until she married Ron Calvird of Stafford, Kansas on June 1, 1975.
The couple had their first child, Ronni, on May 6, 1977, before moving to Lead, SD in June of 1977. Their second child, Conni, was born June 30, 1979 in Rapid City. The family moved from Lead to Custer, SD in August of 1989. In Custer, Sherry worked part time at various jobs before becoming manager of the Piggly Wiggly Bakery in 1993 until she had a heart attack in 1994. Sherry received a kidney transplant on May 8, 2005.
While in Custer she sang in the church choir and was very active in the Custer Senior Citizens Center. Sherry touched the lives of everyone she knew, she will be sorely missed but loved forever.
Sherry is survived by her husband, Ron Calvird of Custer, SD; two daughters, Ronni Calvird of Custer, SD and Conni Calvird of Naukati, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her father who died in 1948; mother who died November 14, 2000 and her brother who died in 1976.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, January 12, 2007, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, at McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Custer, SD.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Custer Community Church in Custer, SD with Pastor Martin Nussbaum officiating. Interment will follow at the Custer Cemetery in Custer, SD.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Sherry's name.
