Sonja Anna Brita Lowe, 77, of Custer, SD, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013. She was born in Jamestown, New York, to Nels and Vera Olson. She is survived by her sister, Vivian Morrison.
Sonja and her husband, Frank, spent over twenty years traveling around the U.S. following the sun from Cape Cod to California, Florida to Colorado and visiting all the states in between. Along the way, Frank made a living selling his watercolor paintings and teaching art classes. During a trip to the Black Hills in the late 60's, Sonja and Frank felt that they had found a place they could call home, and they gave up their wandering lifestyle to settle in the Hills. Frank died in 1997 and Sonja remained in Custer.
Sonja loved all aspects of nature. She could tell you the name of every wildflower in the Hills and the name of every wild bird. She had a deep love of Custer State Park and spent many hours sitting on a bench near Stockade Lake watching birds and chipmunks and listening to the wind in the pines.
She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her sister and loving friends.
