Stacy Ann Reynolds

Stacy Ann Reynolds came into this world accompanied by her twin sister, Susan, on July 21, 1957. They joined twin brothers, Larry and Chris. Growing up in the greater Los Angeles area, the two girls embarked on a childhood journey only possible in the mid 60’s America. With all the antics and associated adventures, Stacy immediately assumed the role of the “evil” twin (in a very loving capacity).

In their late teens both the girls migrated to Nebraska. Stacy returned numerous times over the years to California, the last time to provide end of life care for her mother. Upon her return to Nebraska, Stacy co-owned and operated a tavern in Morrill for nearly a decade. When Susan opened the “Our Place” restaurant, Stacy moved to Custer and went to work for her sister. That occupation and her unique ability as a people person brought her a true fulfillment in life. For the next 16 years when one of her customers would suffer a loss or could no longer make it into the café, she would visit with homemade goodies, the joke of the day and a compassion to listen and lift the spirit of all involved. She became the consummate care-giver to any that were involved with her interaction.

Her other passion in life was fishing. There was never any better thrill than feeling the “tug on the pole”. While her methods were simplistic her success was uncanny. Limits were sometimes optional!

She enjoyed travel throughout the years, visiting Greece on multiple occasions, the islands of Hawaii in 2007. As the free spirit she was, she did the unthinkable (in her own words) and married Mike Carter. Together they spent the next 19 years at their home in Custer. Stacy lived life to the fullest, giving a large portion of it to those in need. Never afraid to have a good time, she lived life as she saw it.

At the young age of 69 she passed after a brief illness, at Monument Health Hospice on August 11, 2026.

We all have an epitaph, her’s definitely comes from her favorite TV series, Lonesome Dove. In the immortal words of the character, Augustus McRae - My God it’s been quite a party, hasn’t it!

Blessed to share in her life were her husband, Mike Carter and their fur baby, Cheyenne. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Lawrence (Ana) Reynolds of Hawaii and Brazil; her surviving aunt, Faith (Joe) Finotti of Washington State; cousin, Maria (Steve) Costa of Mesa, CA; half sister, Chris of Georgia; fishing buddy, Wanda of Custer and a host of friends whose lives she touched through the years, too numerous to mention.

The family requested in place of a memorial, that any contributions be made to St. Judes in Stacy’s name.
