Obituary

Steve Crawford, age 72, of Hot Springs, SD, died Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Ft. Meade, SD. Steve was born July 16, 1939, in Hot Springs, SD to Clark S. and Hilda (Whitted) Crawford.

Steve grew up in Hot Springs, graduating from Hot Springs High School in 1957. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. He was honorably discharged July 8, 1960. In 2010 he traveled with his sister and niece to New York City to visit the ship he left 50 years earlier and never dreamed he would see again.

After returning from the Navy he attended National School of Business. In December 1971 he married Patricia Ann Faustman and this union was blessed with five "lovely" daughters. We love you Daddy!

Steve's passion for the automobile industry and love for people allowed him to do what he loved, which included buying, selling, trading and restoring cars for over 50 years. He proudly told the story of buying his first car when he was only 6 years old.

Steve had many and varied interests. He celebrated his 40th birthday by making his first solo airplane flight. Steve enjoyed lively discussions with everyone he met. He always had a ready smile, a twinkle in his eyes that lit up the world and a friendly handshake. He lived to make people happy and saw the good in everyone. We never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. He was the most selfless, compassionate, loving man we have ever known and we will miss him every day of our lives.

Steve loved his family. He was a fantastic devoted father to his girls who were the light of his life. He was an awesome Papa to his 10 grandchildren, an amazing brother and uncle.

Blessed for having been a part of Steve's life are his four daughters, Susan (Jason) Overstreet of Sturgis, SD; Joanna (Dennis) McBride of Rapid City, SD; Amy Janis of Hot Springs; Sarah (Brian) Schafer of Yuma, AZ. and their mom Pat; grandchildren, Devon; Travis; Brandon; Jimmie; Chad; Danielle; Dylan; Andrew; Brenna and Bradon; soon to be great grandson, Talon; four sisters, Anita Moody; Sharon King; Gwenda Buckmaster; and Barbara (M.R.) Hansen all of Rapid City and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as numerous people through the years who referred to him as Dad.

Steve was preceded in death by his beautiful "star in heaven", Stephanie and his parents.
