Obituary

Sadly, Susan Kay Sturgis passed away peacefully at home, in Edgemont, on September 22, 2022, at the age of 74.  She resided in Edgemont, South Dakota since 2001, with her loving husband, John.

Susan was born on February 11, 1948, in Perris, California. She entered the workforce at a young age representing women's rights in Southern California and remained a strong advocate of equal rights and improving lives for women. She moved up quickly in her career managing and running healthcare facilities where she received several awards and recognitions by her colleagues as "Manager of the Year."

During her free time, she enjoyed coloring black and white prints using gel pens.  She had a special eye for seeing and blending colors. She made individual prints for the entire family as her last project. All the artwork was beautifully framed and matted and will be forever cherished.

Susan was married 47 years to her true love, John. They were soulmates, best friends and had a beautiful partnership. The love and affection they had for each other was one of a kind.  She had the most generous spirit and was supportive and devoted to her family. As Mother and Nanny, she was everyone's best friend. Her heart was always full of love and kindness. Susan was the glue that kept everyone together, making sure no on gave up on one another. No fight lasted long, and the words, "I love you" were always said.

Her children thank their father, John, wholeheartedly for his love, devotion, and tenderness he's shown to their beautiful Mother. He spent their last precious years together taking special care of her, making sure she was comfortable.  Susan truly will be missed, and the family's lives will never be the same.

She is survived by their father, John; three children, Bill (Marlene) Christina "Chrissy" (Dirk) and Lisa; six grandchildren, Carly, Cheyanne, Max, Karissa, Ava, and Avalon; and great grandchild, Isla Jade.

Arrangements have been placed under the local direction of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
