Obituary

Timothy L. Anderson, 54, of Hot Springs died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born July 4, 1957 in Rapid City to Lloyd & Evelyn Anderson. He attended Wilson Elementary, South Junior High School, and Central High School in Rapid City, SD, graduating in 1975. He then attended Northwest Bible College, followed by two years at Mitchell Area Vocational Technical School. Upon graduating with a degree in Electronics/Communications in 1978, Tim was hired in Hot Springs at Peoples Telephone Company, which later became Golden West Telecommunications. He continued to work there for 33 years until the time of his death. He was looking forward to retirement in July 2012.

In his early teen years, Tim was introduced to Amateur Ham Radio, which developed into a lifelong passion. He was very involved in the Hot Springs Amateur Radio Club, where he served as president for many years. As president, he was involved in such activities as teaching classes, planning events, and forming many strong friendships among the ham radio community.

He married Pamela Bjordahl on June 18, 1983. She was his faithful companion for the next 28 years. Their home grew on August 31, 1985 with the birth of their son Matthew. As a family, they shared many memories while enjoying the outdoors; many hiking, camping, and canoeing trips took place. A special treat for Tim was discovering raspberry bushes in the Black Hills. As father and son, Tim and Matt spent times of biking the Mickelson Trail and hiking the Centennial Trail.

His life touched every age group. Tim enjoyed investing in children's lives. He spent many years teaching Sunday School classes, leading a ministry for boys called Royal Rangers, and teaching Bible lessons in Kids' Zone. He served as a deacon, led a van ministry, and ministered in worship leading, both in his local church and at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home.

More recently, Tim developed an interest in running, and competed in several area races. Through this hobby, he was able to raise funds for CareNet, a local organization devoted to protecting the life of the unborn.

Tim's love for family was evident by his interest in researching family genealogy, traveling to Sweden to visit relatives, and actively participating in family reunions and get-togethers.

Tim is survived by his wife, Pam of Hot Springs; his son, Matthew of Hopkins, MN; his mother, Evelyn of Rapid City; two sisters, Penny Saylor (Sam) of Bismarck, ND; Becky Anderson of Rapid City; three nephews, Brian Saylor (Becky) of Bismarck, ND; Barry Saylor (Jessica) of Bismarck, ND; Chris Kringen (Betsy) of Sioux Falls.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Tim's name.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Mueller Civic Center in Hot Springs, SD. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
