Velma Marie Sterns Miller, age 88, formerly of Edgemont, SD, passed away on September 28, 2013, in Ft. Worth, TX.

Velma was born March 6, 1925 to Elmer and Mae Sterns in Atkinson, NE the oldest of 6 children. She was married to David William Miller on May 29, 1948 in Rapid City, SD. Velma worked in Edgemont in the restaurant industry at several locations including Irene's, Stockmans, the Dario, and the Hillsview Café. She will be remembered by many railroaders as they came through Edgemont. Velma was retired from the restaurant industry and living in Ft. Worth with her daughter, Mary Kay.

Velma was very active in community including the Edgemont 4-H board, Edgemont Library Board, and the Fall River County Fair Board.

Velma is preceded in death by her husband David; her mother and father; her brothers Mike, Francis, Gene Sterns, and a sister in infancy.

Velma is survived by daughters Juanita (Michael) Wright of Grand Priarie, TX and Mary Kay Jansante of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren Christine (Eddie) Quijada of Nashville, TN, David Peterson of Nashville, TN, Tim (Priscilla) Jansante of Ft. Worth, TX; 4 great grandchildren (Shaun, Tanner, Kerri, Nikali), 3 step-great grandchildren(Alexis, Jordyn, Rian); brother Bernard Sterns of Atkinson, NE; one sister-in-law Rose; 10 nieces and nephews. Services for Velma Marie Sterns Miller formerly of Edgemont, SD will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 4th at the United Church in Edgemont, with Rev. Thomas Peacock officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 thru 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the United Church in Edgemont, SD.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013, at the United Church in Edgemont, with Rev. Thomas Peacock officiating.

Burial will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2013, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.

A memorial has been set up with the Edgemont Senior Center to the attention of Betty Patrick.
