Vernon Arthur Olmstead, 82, of Edgemont, SD, passed away January 3, 2020, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hot Springs, SD.

Vernon was born February 1, 1937, in Dupree, SD, to Justus and Evelyn (Thompson) Olmstead.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959 and from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1967.

Vernon is survived by his brothers, Norman Olmstead of Martin, SD; Dennis Olmstead of Sherman, TX; sister, Darlene Geboe of Rapid City, SD; sister in laws, Doris Olmstead of Bellingham, WA; Linda Olmstead of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceasing Vernon are his parents, his brothers, Marvin; Ralph 'Ed'; Dacre; Wesley; sisters, Marian and Winifred.

Per Vernon's wishes no services will be held.   Private family committal service at Black Hills National Cemetery will be held at a later time.
