Viola May 'Vi' Burch, 87, of Hill City, SD, passed away on August 2, 2019, at Arrowhead Nursing Home in Rapid City, SD. Vi died after a lengthy illness with COPD and Congestive Heart Failure.
She was born was born on June 25, 1932, to Edna Viola Godfrey and Gerald Dwight Refior in North Platte, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm in North Platte, NE with her brothers: Donald, Dale & Louis.
Vi married Glenn Lee Burch on December 13, 1950 and they were happily married for 56 years. While on leave from the Air Force, Glenn and Vi were married in Lexington, Nebraska. Glenn returned to Anchorage and Vi stayed with her parents until Glenn could send for her. Glenn and Vi moved to Colorado in 1960 with their kids. Vi ran the office for Burch Plumbing while raising 4 children: Glenda, Diana, Dwight & Ivan. The family frequently went to Carter Lake where they enjoyed many days camping and fishing together.
Vi was a big influence in her grandchildren's lives. The grandkids were always around the house visiting with Grandpa & Grandma. She raised several of her grandkids at different times during their growing-up years.
Vi moved to Hill City, SD after the death of her husband in 2007. She lived in Hill City and made friends at the Senior Center. She then moved to Arrowhead Nursing home in Rapid City, SD where she resided until her death.
She is survived by her sons, Dwight (Jill) Burch of Hill City, SD; Ivan (Brenda) Burch of Thornton, CO; brother Dale (Virginia) Refior of North Platte, NE; and sister-in-law Ardis Refior of Hershey, NE. Grandchildren: Phillip Jewett, Robert Jewett, Crystal Jewett, Travis Burch, Kimberly Brown, Desirae Moore, Dominique Moore, Robbie Burch, Tiffanie Burch, Haley Burch, Zachary Burch, Jennifer Salazar, Kim Sobczak, Daniel Sobczak, Brooke Sobczak, 27 great grandkids, many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn Burch, brother Donald Refior, brother & sister-in-law Louis and Val Refior, daughters Glenda Jewett, Diana Jewett and grandson Andrew Burch.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.
