Vivian Esther "Shorty" Roesler , age 89, formerly of Custer, SD, passed away May 22, 2015, at the Golden Living Center-Prairie View, in Rapid City, SD.
Vivian was born January 19, 1926, in Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania to Frank and Bessie (Collins) Thiel. She was the younger of two children.
Vivian met William "Bud" Roesler while William was serving in the Coast Guard in New Jersey, during WWII. They married in New Jersey on June 30th 1946, and after his discharge they moved to Gettysburg, SD, where they called home and raised their 6 daughters. She worked as a cook in many restaurants which she did with great pride. In 1974, Vivian and William moved to Custer, SD, where she worked at the Youth Forestry Camp, until she moved to Gillette, WY, and worked as a cook at the Campbell County Hospital for 15 years. In 1994, Vivian moved back to Custer to a town she truly loved and considered home to enjoy her retirement years.
Vivian was a spunky and charming woman who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to cook her favorite German recipes for her children and grandchildren. Vivian's favorite holiday was Christmas, where she worked hard to make sure her girls had a great time and special memories. She enjoyed collecting antiques, coins, and watching Elvis movies.
Vivian's sprit lives on through her six daughters, Jackie (Don) Klug of Gillette, WY; Carmen (Dick) Hericks of Gettysburg, SD; Carletta (Timothy) (Zeke) Zebroski of Gillette; Billie (Darrell) Mutchler of Sioux Falls, SD; Tammy (Pat) Laeng of Groveland, CA; Dawn (Ray) McLaughlin of Custer. 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister, Katheryn Tabor of Flagstaff, AZ ; and sister in law, Ruth Roesler of Mobridge, SD, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Bessie Thiel, and husband, William (Bud) Roesler.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. thru 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home in Custer.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Opoien officiating.
