Wallace (Wally) Bangsund, age 66, of Custer, SD, died Thursday, January 16, 2009 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
He was born December 16, 1942 in Benson, MN to Orvin Hiram & Ruth Josephine (Johnson) Bangsund. He grew up in Cashel Township, went to country school until 8th grade and remainder of his years in Benson. He graduated in 1961.
He was united in marriage to Marion Ann Sylte on December 28, 1963. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage.
He lived with his family on a farm south of Benson. He farmed until 2000 on the home farm in Cashel Township. After retiring they moved to Custer, SD and built their dream home with the help of his son-in-law (Jeff) and neighbor (Norb).
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, riding 4-wheeler, riding horses, going for breakfast, spending time with friends and working in his shop on various wood projects. He also enjoyed time with his grandchildren and being a big part of their life.
Wally is survived by his wife, Marion; three children, Renee' (Gary) Jensen of Benson; Keith (Denise) Bangsund of Montevideo and Rachelle (Jeff) Johnson of Custer, SD. Grandchildren, Brett Jensen; Sara Jensen; Brock Bangsund; Jenna Bangsund; Tyrel Johnson; Josey Johnson & Jalee Johnson. One brother, LuVerne (Mona) Bangsund of Benson & one sister-in-law, Margaret Ellingson of Benson.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray and sister Eunice Mae.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Custer Lutheran Fellowship Church in Custer.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Custer Lutheran Fellowship Church in Custer, with Pastor Jim Lindekugel and Pastor Kent Narum officiating. Funeral services will also be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Benson, MN with Pastor David Andert officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.
Interment will follow at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery in Benson, MN.
A memorial has been established in Wally's name to benefit the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association or a living memorial.
