Wayne Lee Straub, 69, of Edgemont, SD, passed away January 16, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family. Wayne was born July 3,1955, the son of Melvin Straub and Lucille Straub/Stewart. He was born in Edgemont and was the second child of four, the eldest son. Wayne attended school in Cheyenne, WY until he was diagnosed with dyslexia, after which he attended a special school in Denver, CO. He worked as a pipefitter in Cheyenne, WY, until he was buried alive and was saved by the hand of God, by putting his hardhat over his face and his dog, Champ, digging until it alerted the crew who got him out.
He met his forever mate, Veronica (Roni) Erichsen in Cheyenne. They moved to Arizona where they married in 1988. They moved to Edgemont in 2006, where they spent time volunteering in the Senior Center, doing ceramics and lighting up the lives of so many that they knew.
Wayne his survived by his mother, Lucille Stewart; his sister, Teresa Straub; his sister-in-law, Deb White; his sister, Rosellen Boehm/Granby; brother-in-law, Kim Granby; brother, Dean Straub; sister-in-law, Glenda Straub; son-in-law, Joe Teixeria and Joe's daughter, Lexie. He is also survived by his three nieces, Iris Boehm; Jessica Armstrong; Abbey Lincoln as well as great nieces and a great nephew. He is also survived by a considered son, Michael Johnson and his family and Kim Granby Jr. and sister in law, Penny.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica (Roni) Straub in October 2024; his father, Melvin A. Straub and his stepfather, Glen Stewart.
A celebration of life will be held for Roni and Wayne at a later date. An announcement will be made as plans are made and you can also contact Teresa at PO Box 805 in Edgemont, SD 57735.
