Wilemina Theresa 'Mena' Trotter of Edgemont, SD died July 5, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV while visiting family.
Wilemina Theresa Daum was born June 18, 1926 in Edgemont to Mary Josephine Howard and William Henry Daum. She attended Edgemont schools, graduating in 1944, and worked at various local businesses including the Iris Theater where she loved watching all the movies, the Golden Rule, and the Igloo Army Depot prior to marrying John Trotter August 23, 1948. With the exception of a six-month stint in Ft. Carson, Colorado in 1950 while John was in the army, Mena was a life-long Edgemont resident. She and John owned and operated the Coast-to-Coast store from 1963 to 1988 when their son Grant and his wife Christy assumed ownership with Hardware Hank's. In 1990 John and Mena donated the building to the City of Edgemont for use as a library. Upon retiring, Mena worked part-time at the library and also a day care center.
Family, faith, and friends formed the foundation of Mena's life. She enjoyed being with her family, visiting with friends, helping people, reading mysteries, watching old movies, and playing pinochle. Throughout her life, she remained an active member of the Catholic Church, embracing an unwavering spirituality and participating in numerous Church activities.
Mena was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Grant and two siblings, Joe Daum and "Tootsie" Childers.
Surviving family members include: her children Richard Trotter of Colorado; Tom Trotter and his wife, Rea Trotter, of Colorado; Susan and her husband, Terry, Ragels of Rapid City, SD and daughter-in-law, Christy Trotter Barker of Las Vegas. Her grandchildren include: Devin Trotter and his wife Janna, Tesia Robinson and her husband Matt, Erin Trotter, Megan Trotter, William Hutchinson, Joshua Ragels and his wife Stacy, Brittany Walker and her husband Travis, and Jacob Ragels. Nine great-grandchildren also survive her. Nieces and nephews include: Marilyn Ringer, Wayne Childers, Carol Hagen, Ken Daum, Keith Daum, Tina Sazma, Matthew Steffe, and David Steffe. Among her many friends are: Verna Barker, Freda Dibble, Judy Porter, LaVerna Wing, Clova Wasserberger, Gay Darrow, and Art and Jackie Pierce.
A wake and Recitation of the Rosary will be held, 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 11 at St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont.
The funeral will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2008 at St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont with Fr. Peter Kovarik officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. James Catholic Church or the Edgemont Public Library.
