William Robert Vanderbeek ("Beek" to his friends & family), age 59, of Custer, SD, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 7, 2014, at the Hospice House in Rapid City, SD
.
Bill was born and raised in the Black Hills & attended school in Hill City, SD. He spent most of his life here but he spent several years in the Colorado Rockies as well. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish & hunt.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jim & Maxine, and a younger sister, Lori.
He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Diane Vanderbeek of Custer; his step children, Rich Rames of Rapid City; Jessica Bruce of Nisland, SD; three sisters, Vicki Barlean of Hermosa, SD; Kelli Luxem & Teri Vanderbeek, both of Rapid City; two daughters, Angela of Rapid City; Mikki of Frasier, CO; three sons, Clint, Cody and Tyler all of Rapid City; as well as a grand-daughter & great-grandson of Rapid City. Beek will be lovingly remembered by his "adopted" family, the Gramkows and many nieces, nephews and much loved friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2014, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills with Marsha Savery officiating. The family will be greeting friends and family at the 1st Baptist Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be sent to a family fund in care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills at 234 N. 6th St. Custer, SD 57730.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Hospice House in Rapid City for the excellent care and for the support we received and for making Beek's last days easier to bear.
