William 'Bill' Lloyd Birkholt, 77, of Custer, SD, passed away December 31, 2023, at the Michael J Fitzmaurice Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD.

William (Bill) Birkholt graduated from Selby High in the mid 60's. He went into the Marines and in the Vietnam war. He was granted a Purple Heart in many other awards. He won the war with alcohol and was 40 years sober when he passed away on New Year's Eve, 2023 at the State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD.

Bill retired from Job Corps where he was in charge of maintenance and water.

Committal services will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

Before the state home, Bill and his wife, Mary Jo lived on a quiet acreage on Tenderfoot Creek, near Custer, SD in the beautiful Black Hills. Bill, loved to trim the willows and walk in the creek on warm summer days.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Marcy of Custer; daughter, Keiha Harrison of Las Vegas, NV; stepson, Blair Romero of CA; brother, Chuck Birkholt of Selby, SD and grandchildren, Anthony, Morgan and Hayley.
