William James 'Cav' Cavanaugh, 57, of Custer, SD passed away April 21, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Hot Springs, SD.

Cav was born February 4, 1952 in Shamokin, PA to Edward and Mae (Hanisko) Cavanaugh. He rode with the Warlocks motorcycle club for twelve years and worked for the Northern & Redding Railroad for 18 years. He married Rita on April 13, 2007. Cav served in the United States Navy from May 29, 1969 until his honorable discharge on February 1, 1971.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, of Custer; son, Dillon Cavanaugh; daughter Sheila Cavanaugh of Opp, AL; mother, Mae Cavanaugh of Palmyra, PA; brothers, Edward (Barbara) Cavanaugh of Las Alamitos, CA; Bob (Lynn) Cavanaugh of GA; step-mother Donna (Earl) Scarabin of Poplarville, MS; step-brothers, Chuck Cavanaugh of Gretna, LA; Donald Cavanaugh of Marrero, LA; John (Diane) Cavanaugh of Algiers, LA; step-sister, Judy (Jim) Heisey of Palmyra, PA; Debbie Cavanaugh of Harvey LA; Susan (Kolby) Davis of Picayune, MS; and two grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father and step-brother, Fritz.

At the family's request, no services will be held.
