Obituary

William Hamblin, age 86 of Milbank passed away January 10th at St. William's Care Center. Visitation will be Thursday, January 12th at St. William's Care Center from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. and at Mundwiler Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD from noon – 2 p.m. A graveside service, with military honors will follow at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Smithwick Cemetery, Smithwick, SD. Casket bearers will be his grandsons: Shayne Linngren, Travis Linngren, Marlyn (Pete) Waege, Timothy Meagher, Thomas Meagher, and Tanner Meagher.

William Thomas Hamblin was born September 5, 1925, in Hot Springs, SD. He was the son of William Franklin Hamblin and Martha Frawley Hamblin. He graduated from Hot Springs High School. He served in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to South Dakota and was united in marriage with Edna May Nighswonger on December 10, 1950.

William was a rancher and truck driver in the Hot Springs/Smithwick area. In recent years, he resided in Milbank to be closer to his daughters.

"Dad had only one request in his last years, and that was to move back to the Black Hills. He talked almost daily of Smithwick, Hot Springs, and the Black Hills….now he is finally home." His loving children.

William Hamblin is survived by three daughters: Anita Homan (Alan) of Wilmot, SD; Cheri (Richard) Meagher of Milbank, SD; Meril Hamblin of Colorado; two sons: Gerald Hamblin of Minneapolis, MN; Thomas Hamblin of Colorado; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister Margie (Dale) Jacobson of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edna and two sons-in-law: Marlyn Waege, Sr. andMichael Linngren.
