Mrs. Wilma M. Jacobson, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away at the Custer Regional Senior Care Center in the early morning on Dec 1st, 2012.
Mrs. Jacobson was born and raised in Plattsmouth, Ne. Following high school, she earned her nursing degree at Clarkson Memorial Hospital where she met her future husband, Dr. T.R. Jacobson. They were married at the United Church in Hot Springs, SD, in 1953. She was known for her love of babies and children, while her husband Ted loved to bring them into the world. They had a private medical practice together and enjoyed caring for their patients for 45 years, retiring in 1998.
Wilma became a Chapter M, P.E.O. member, earning her 50 year pin in 2007. Making so many good friends through the years, her P.E.O. memory book is a story all by itself.
Having a lifelong love of airplanes, she earned her private pilot's license in July of 1961, in Rapid City. She was a member of the Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots and flew her Cessna 172 whenever possible. She was also involved in the Miss America pageant for many years, chaperoning several Miss South Dakota contestants to national pageants.
She was graced with an abundance of lasting friendships, many through her husband's practice as well as her organizations, that she lived a truly rich life. She enjoyed golfing, skiing, cooking, gardening and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted. She is survived by her three children, Ted, Mike and Jane and two grandchildren, Mike and Jenny.
Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 PM, on Thursday, Dec 6th. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Friday, Dec 7th, at the United Churches in Hot Springs with Pastor Clint Walker. Interment will be at 2 PM, December 7th at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.
