She attended eight years of country school and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1945.  She taught Sunday school for many years at the Congregational Church in Willow Lake, SD.

She married Ruben S. Hofer in 1946.  They farmed in Beadle and Clark counties until they bought their own farm in 1961, near Carpenter, SD.

In 1980, she transferred to the Veterans Medical Center in Hot Springs, SD.  She and Ruben relocated to Hot Springs and built their own home on an acreage in the Black Hills.  Winnie retired from the VA in 1997.

Ruben and Winnie moved into the city of Hot Springs in 2006 due to Ruben's declining health.  He passed away in 2008.

Winnie's legacy will be her love of her family.  She was a devoted farmer's wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed raising her four children, reading, embroidering, camping, gardening and attending church.
